Reminder: You must take the responsibility for being vigilant by always reconfirming the GF status of a menu item and addressing cross-contamination issues each and every time.

Casa Guadalajara has been one of Diane Power's Bazaar del Mundo "family of restaurants" since 1995. It provides a gluten-free menu available at the restaurant, but it is not on their website as yet. The other restaurants in the group, Casa de Bandini (Encinitas) and Casa de Pico (La Mesa) also offer gluten-free menus.

"I wanted to pass along that my family recently ate at the Guadalajara Restaurant on Taylor Street in Old Town. I am Celiac and my husband is Gluten Intolerant. They have a gluten free menu as well as gluten free chips! Their staff was very informed and helpful. The food was delicious! We would highly recommend this restaurant."

"My husband, daughter and I went to Casa Guadalajara in Old Town last Saturday, Nov 26 for lunch. We did not call ahead, and our waiter was wonderful, taking very good care of us. When he brought our chips to the table, he confirmed (without being asked) that they were gluten free, and also put me at ease in regard to their training/carefulness to avoid cross-contamination. Our daughter was THRILLED to be able to eat the chips and salsa at a restaurant for the first time in ages. She also had the nachos from the GF menu and loved it. Our dishes – a seafood soft corn taco  and chicken enchiladas were also delicious and no one had any reactions. We are so appreciative to have this option and will be back soon!"

"After reading the review from the website on Casa Guadalajara (Old Town, San Diego) my husband and I decided to give it a try. I am VERY sensitive to gluten and often a little contamination can pull me down for several days. I very rarely eat out, simply because it is not worth it!

We did call ahead to let them know that we were coming and that I needed to gluten free options and got the response "No problem! We will be ready for you." The staff was AMAZING. I ate an incredible fajita dinner with gluten free chips and salsa. Our waiter when bringing out my food told me several times not to eat the chips on the table but he would bring me my own gluten free ones out. They even had two things of salsa to avoid contaminating my husbands(gluten) chips in the salsa. The waiter also assured me when he brought out the food that one by one that everything was "gluten free" which helped put me at ease. The staff was very kind, and understanding. It was so nice to be taken seriously. That night and the next day NO problems! Sometimes it is the little things in life that mean the most :)"

"Attended the Day of the Dead celebration in Old Town and using your web site ate at Casa Guadalajara. Wonderful experience. They have a GLUTEN FREE MENU! The servers all very aware of gluten free. I had gluten free chips that were cooked separately from their other chips. I had chicken and beef fajitas very delicious , nice tender pieces of meat, very generous servings. Would recommend this place and plan to return my self."

"Just had a gluten-free meal at Casa Guadalajara Restaurant in Old Town. The manager, Filiberto, is a really nice guy and very accommodating to gluten-intolerant individuals.  The restaurant now has a "Gluten Free Menu" with a large variety (I counted over 25 items on it).  He advised me they specially make their corn tortillas in a dedicated fryer to prevent cross contamination, take precautions with the GF items, and have provided training to staff."

"We ate at Casa Guadalajara in Old Town last night – and the manager was super helpful and knowledgeable.  He said that most GF people CALL AHEAD to let them know they are coming and they will prepare chips, shells, whatever in their own, new oil.  They just need a heads up!  Impressive.  They were able to fry some tacos instead for my son – and they were great – my son loved them.  We’ll be back – and next time you can bet, we’re calling ahead.  I put their number in my phone!  The manager gave me his card – his name is Eduardo Zepeda.

Also, I guess their refried beans are a no-no as they use some of their oil that fry their chimichangas & big flour tortilla shells as an ingredient in their beans.  But they had another kind of bean that was GF. Great to have so much information – and such welcoming attitude towards accomodation."
