In-N-Out is a fast food restaurant that offers a simple menu of hamburgers,
fries, and drinks. They do not give gluten-free information via email or on their website, but
only through
customer service on the telephone.
The Not-So-Secret menu items are
listed on their website, which are important for ordering gluten-free. "Protein Style" is how to order the burger wrapped in lettuce rather than a bun.
The buns are the only item considered to contain gluten on the whole menu, according to Customer Service Representative, Heather, on 4/11/11. She further reviewed cross-contamination issues.
Cross-contamination: There is potential for cross contamination in two ways:
- The same spatula is used for the buns and burger patties. You may ask the manager to make sure a clean spatula is used for your burger.
- The same spatula is used to spread the sauce on the bun and on the burgers. You can ask for a clean spatula to be used on your burger, or you can simply request the sauce in side packets instead.

"I was recently diagnosed with ciliac disease around 4 months ago. I was geting considerably better until I started eating at In-n-Out. I am a driving instructor and find myself on the road alot so I have to pack food in a cooler to take with me. I was thrilled when I found out that In n out was gluten free I ordered everything but there bun and I got very sick all over again. I was in bed for a week. I cut out the In-n-out and no more sickness."
