"After having such a great time on our previous vist as review posted here, we felt pretty confident about another dining out experience at Joe's Crab Shack in Hazard Center-Mission Valley. I ordered the Crab Daddy Bucket with Snow Crab legs side - gluten-free and potato-free as I have a potato allergy too; I made sure to tell the waitress 5 times to be sure about it and make sure the chef knows, etc, etc. Well after 30 minutes, our food arrived and lo-and-behold there are two potatoes in my steampot. No, I can't just pick them out, they were steamed together and now I have no confidence as to the meal being prepared gluten-free either. I can definitelly tell it was not prepared potato-fee with two big potatoes sitting right there in my steampot so who knows about the gluten? I couldn't eat it. One tiny gluten exposure flairs up my autoimmune condition giving me thyroid antibodies for 8 months! I left without eating although I was starving. I informed the manager asking him to make sure chef and waitress bone up on allergen preparation and he, Patrick, seemed pretty unconcerned about the whole thing - "well we are pretty good about that MOST of the time"..... Well, is that kind of like being MOSTLY not pregnant? I don't want to be one of the ones that don't fall into the "most" group.............. "We went to Joe's Crab Shack on a week night and had a great time! I had the Crab Daddy Steam Basket with the Garlic Butter and my non-GF friend had another crab steam basket with a topping that is not GF. We brought with us a coupon we got from Joe's Crab Shack website for a free appetizer and there is only one appetizer that is GF and that is the shrimp with an Old Bay seasoning. I substituted steamed broccoli for the corn and potatoes. Our food was delicious. The waitress was very knowledgable about safe GF choices in their restaurant and was very reassuring that she would doublecheck to make sure no mistakes - she had my back! The atmosphere was fun; another customer had a birthday and they sang for her and gave her a pony-on-a-stick to gallop around upon during the song; although embarassed, she was a good sport. The food and everyone we met there was top notch! We had a great time. The food was great. I did not get sick. I can't wait to return and highly recommend this restaurant."
