"Our April CSA support group board meeting was held at the Roppongi restaurant in La Jolla. We were treated to a delicious gluten free lunch. The restaurant has developed an extensive gluten free menu and contacted us to ask if we’d be willing to come and sample the food. We all enjoyed the food very much. It was quite a treat to be able to order from a two-page menu containing only gluten free foods. We all had to try their homemade soups as it is rare that we are able to order soup in a restaurant. There is also a gluten free dinner menu.
The downside was that the prices seemed high to many of us."

"On Saturday, April 24th the CSA board was generously treated to lunch at Roppongi's to try their gluten-free offerings. Steve Omahen, the manager of Roppongi's, explained to us how Roppongi (and its sister restaurant Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza) developed their gluten-free menu. They currently offer a separate gluten-free menu for lunch and dinner with a nice selection of appetizers, soups and entrees. The variety was great, and not limited to just a very few items.
Several members started their meal with either a soup or salad. These included the Thai corn soup, tomato soup and house salad. They noted that both the corn soup and tomato soups had great flavor, and noted how few times gluten free soups are available in restaurants. I ordered a house salad, which came with a tasty vinaigrette dressing.
For entrees, several members ordered the layered crab salad. Also sampled were the chicken satays with peanut sauce and the Caesar salad. I enjoyed the curried lamb with tomatoes and feta in lettuce cups. This was a particularly wonderful selection, as it tasted much like a traditional lamb (gyros) sandwich that I have been missing. For dessert we enjoyed mango and coconut sorbets.
The food is beautifully presented, very fresh and filling. Chef Stephen Window joined us at the end of the meal and spoke with us about this special menu. Lee Matthews provided us with fabulous service.
Parking is on the street. The appointments on both the patio and inside are particularly beautiful."
